FAQ's

• How do I schedule Driver Education classes and Behind the Wheel lessons?
All you have to do is call us during our business hours and we can set up an appointment for you to start the portion of the training that you need. Our toll free number is 800-746-2020. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. Please call us with any questions you may have about the program.

• Can I drive with my friends in the car with me once I get my license?
If you are under 18, you are not allowed to have anyone in the car with you under the age of 20 for the first six months you have your license unless there is also a licensed adult in the car as well. This does not apply if you are 18 years of age or older.

• Will I be picked up for my Behind the Wheel lessons?
Yes, your instructor will pick you up from either home or school for your lessons if you live or go to school within our service area.

• How many students will I be taking Behind the Wheel lessons with?
Your Behind the Wheel lessons are private. There will not be any other students in the car at any point during the time of your lessons.

• Are United’s instructors licensed?
Yes. All of our instructors are licensed through the State and Department of Motor Vehicles as driving instructors. They complete a required training course and pass an instructor test at Department of Motor Vehicles. They also must pass a background check.

• What is the permit test?
The permit test is a written test on the rules of the road. The information you need to study for this is covered in your Driver Education classes and is outlined in the Department of Motor Vehicles Driver Handbook.

• Do I have to get a permit if I am already 18 or older?
Yes. Anyone who wants to drive in California must first pass the permit test at Department of Motor Vehicles in order to start practicing. If you are an adult, you may practice with a California licensed driver 18 years or older. If you are under 18, you may practice with a California licensed driver 25 or older. It is illegal for anyone, regardless of age, to drive without a permit or a license. When you are ready, you can attempt your drive test at Department of Motor Vehicles.
